Göran Bolin is professor in Media & Communication Studies at Södertörn University. Bolin has since the early 1990s worked in or headed research projects on violence in the media, youth and cultural production, entertainment television and the relation between production practices and textual expressions, media consumption and the production of value in cultural industries, media structure and use in the Baltic Sea region, mobile phone use, etc. Methodologically the projects have involved textual analysis, media ethnography, statistical analysis, cultural analysis. His recent project ‘Variable Media Landscapes. Mediated Social and Cultural Change in the Baltic Sea Region’ (The Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies 2002-2006) analysed the role of the media in and for social and cultural change over the last decades of the 1900s and the early 2000s. He is currently heading the project ‘Digital Media Cultures: Audiences, Life-styles and Generations in the Age of Digital Reproduction’ (Baltic Sea Foundation 2007-2009), and the project ‘Value and the Media. An Inquiry Into the Production and Consumption of Value in Media Industries’ (Swedish Science Foundation 2008-2010).
 
Bolin is the author of 5 books and reports and 8 edited books. He has published in journals such as Nordicom Review, Young, AV/Montage, International Journal of Cultural Studies, MedieKultur, Screen, Javnost/The Public, Media, Culture & Society, International Journal of Communication and Social Semiotics.
 
He is editor of Young. Nordic Journal of Youth Research.
